Customer Case Study - Leyland Cross

Newcomers with Burning Ambition For Quality

David Linton of FFF and Christine
Maclellan of Leyland Cross.

When it comes to energy and enthusiasm for her job, Christine Maclellan is a match for anyone.

After 14 years with M&S in quality control plus time working abroad, Christine's longstanding friend of many years, Jim Mackinnon, asked her to consider running his new Leyland Cross Fish and Chip Shop in Leyland Lancashire.

Having never fried before Christine embarked on crash course in learning the trade, with the accolade of the Sea Fish Award being acquired within 7 months of opening.

"We were originally going to peel potatoes but the drainage in the wet room was inadequate and was going to cause difficulties with waste management. We then looked at 2 companies who provided freshly prepared chips."

"After some weeks of trial, Triple F Chips won our business" says Christine. "Their MD David Linton was very attentive and even when potato supply was difficult in last year's wet summer; we still got quality chips delivered."

"We are really fussy about quality, especially fry colour, but if on the odd occasion, we feel we need a better chip, Triple F Chips will provide an alternative."

During the Sea Fish assessment, Triple F Chips gained full marks for storage, appearance and taste.

Enthused about the science of potato growing and chipping, Christine decided to visit the Triple F Chip factory and farming operation. "I was amazed at the attention to detail on assessing every raw potato batch being used for processing" she remarked "Every effort is made to produce the perfect chip."

I wouldn't consider peeling now. Sacks of potatoes make the shop dirty; increase my labour, drainage and waste costs. Also in a new set up, I avoid unnecessary capital expense of a rumbler, chipper and wet room. Expense which a new start up doesn't want.

David Linton commented "Leyland Cross is one of the best set ups I have seen The service and quality is brilliant especially for new start business. Jim and Christine are demanding, but that is what we want. It makes us better at our job."
